  1. A) cool update! It's nice to see how others are doing with their blogs :)

    B) Charles Dickens wrote many Christmas stories, why do you think a Christmas Carol above the others has become such an important American icon?

  2. Hey Abby! Charles Dickens was a brilliant author who wrote stories about PEOPLE, like... REAL PEOPLE and REAL human emotion. A Christmas Carol, I think was so popular because people had always wondered what will happen to us when we die. Where do our souls go and what will it be like 6 feet under ground? Dickens gave us an insight into what might happen if we lead unfulfilled lives and don't, just shower love on the people around us. Scrooge thought that people were not worth his time to pay attention or be nice to. This story also puts our lives into perspective. My family cracks open this book every Christmas and even my dad, who doesn't dig on emotions that much hehehe, he CRIED the first time he saw the play. It gives us hope and to quote Samwise Gamgee, "There's still some good in this world, Mr. Frodo, and it's worth fighting for." People can change and it opens our eyes to see how little we are and how much people are hurting. Then at the end when Scrooge changes his ways we see that even though we ARE SMALL, we can still make a tremendous difference in someone's life by just... loving them. That's why I think it's so popular, anyway.
